Alex Ovechkin netted two goals as he matched an NHL milestone and propelled the Washington Capitals to a 6-2 win over the Utah Hockey Club on Monday night. His goals were scored against Connor Ingram, bringing the count of different goalies he's scored against to 178, equalling Jaromir Jagr's record in the league.
Ovechkin exited the ice in the third period due to a suspected leg injury. Charlie Lindgren played a crucial role for the Capitals with 24 saves, while Utah's Karel Vejmelka and Ingram together had 18 saves.
Utah's Jack McBain initially put the team on the scoreboard, but Dylan Strome, Nic Dowd, and Brandon Duhaime were among those who found the net for the Capitals.
The Capitals are enjoying a strong streak, having won their last four away games and scoring at least five goals in each of these matches. McBain leads the Utah team with three goals over the recent five games.
A pivotal moment in the game occurred when Strome and Dowd scored just 10 seconds apart, overturning Utah's early advantage.
Ovechkin currently tops the NHL with 15 goals this season. Strome and Duhaime both contributed with a goal and an assist each. Looking ahead, the Capitals will face Colorado at home on Thursday, while Utah will set off on a four-game trip starting in Boston the same day.
