St. Louis Blues News & Updates

Alexander Steen is on track to make history as the first Swedish NHL general manager following the St. Louis Blues' announcement of their future plans.

Steen has been named the special assistant to Doug Armstrong, the current general manager, with plans for him to take over the position in 2026. Armstrong, who has been at the helm since 2010, received a three-year extension as president of hockey operations.

Under Armstrong's leadership, the Blues have reached the playoffs ten times in thirteen years and won the Stanley Cup in 2019. Steen contributed to that championship team as a player.

After retiring in 2021, Steen transitioned to the Blues' front office, serving as a consultant and development coach. He is now set to become only the second European general manager in the NHL, following Jarmo Kekalainen of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
