Selected as the number one pick in the 2020 NHL draft, Alexis Lafreniere has committed to a seven-year contract extension with the New York Rangers.
The 23-year-old forward is set to receive an average annual salary of $7.45 million until the end of the 2031-32 season. In the previous season, Lafreniere stood out by scoring 28 goals and providing 29 assists over 82 games. He was instrumental in the Rangers' journey to the Eastern Conference finals, where he matched Vincent Trocheck as the team's top goal-scorer with 8 goals and accumulated 14 points across 16 games.
Throughout his NHL career, Lafreniere has achieved a total of 155 points, consisting of 79 goals and 76 assists in 305 games. This season, he has already tallied 4 goals and 3 assists in 7 games, while enjoying a personal best average ice time of 17:51 per game.
Rangers coach Peter Laviolette attributes Lafreniere's success in the playoffs to his enhanced confidence and notes that he continues to perform at a high level this season. Laviolette observes that Lafreniere is making exceptional plays that signify his growing confidence.
