Troy Terry and Leo Carlsson played a crucial role in leading the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-1 win against the San Jose Sharks. Through their efforts, the Ducks achieved their first power-play goals for the season, with Lukas Dostal managing to save 27 attempts.
Alex Killorn contributed an additional goal when the net was empty, and Cutter Gauthier provided two assists to support Anaheim's victory. On the Sharks' side, Mikael Granlund was the sole scorer, extending the team's streak without a win to six games despite Mackenzie Blackwood's impressive 37 saves.
The Ducks ended their failure to score on 20 consecutive power-play attempts with Terry's goal during the second period. Although Granlund evened the score in the third, Carlsson quickly restored Anaheim's lead on a power play just 41 seconds later. Both Danil Gushchin and Barclay Goodrow came close but failed to score for the Sharks.
The Sharks' coach noted their ongoing streak of misfortune, emphasizing the near-misses that included a shot that ricocheted off both the goal line and the post.
On the Ducks' side, there was a sense of relief as their power play finally produced results, breaking its lengthy scoreless streak for the season.
A pivotal moment occurred when Sharks center Will Smith incurred a tripping penalty a mere 10 seconds after Granlund's tying goal, enabling Carlsson to score the deciding goal for the Ducks.
Terry maintained his streak of earning points in five consecutive games, achieving four goals and one assist during this period.
Looking ahead, the Sharks will play against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, and the Ducks are set to compete against the New York Rangers on Saturday.
