Leo Carlsson scored just 54 seconds into overtime, giving the Anaheim Ducks a 5-4 win over the Utah Hockey Club, marking their ninth consecutive victory in home openers.
Utah took the lead late in regulation with a goal by Clayton Keller, but Anaheim's Pavel Mintyukov leveled the score just minutes later. Carlsson secured the win after receiving a pass from Troy Terry.
Robby Fabbri, Troy Terry, and Mintyukov were the goal scorers for Anaheim. Lukas Dostal contributed with 26 saves. For Utah, the goals came from Keller, Hayton, McBain, and Kesselring, while Connor Ingram made 29 saves.
Utah has shown strong offensive capabilities but has been defensively weak, allowing 19 goals across five games. Despite the Ducks' struggles in the playoffs, they played in front of a sellout crowd and have now earned at least one point in 12 straight home opener games.
Mintyukov's goal was significant, coming with less than six minutes left on the clock and ensuring Anaheim secured a point. However, the Ducks' power play is still proving ineffective, failing to convert on all 11 opportunities this season.
Utah is set to host Boston on Saturday, while Anaheim will play on the road against Colorado on Friday.
