Captain Anze Kopitar reached a significant milestone during the game, securing his 1,200th point in his career through both a goal and an assist, leading the Los Angeles Kings to a dominant 6-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild. In this match, David Rittich contributed significantly by blocking 30 shots, achieving his third season shutout.
In his comeback from an injury, Viktor Arvidsson not only netted his season's first goal but also provided an assist. Similar achievements were made by Kevin Fiala and Phillip Danault, each adding a goal and an assist to the team's tally. Matt Roy and Jordan Spence were also among those who scored for the Kings.
With this accomplishment, Kopitar joined the elite group of only 52 players in NHL history to have scored 1,200 points, and remarkably, he is among the four players born outside of North America to have reached this mark with a single team.
The Wild's goalie Marc-Andre Fleury was substituted for Filip Gustavsson during the second period after surrendering five goals and facing only 16 shots. This switch occurred as the Wild were significantly trailing, 5-0. This defeat concluded the Wild's three-game road series with a record of 1-1-1, preventing them from closing the gap on the Kings, who advanced seven points ahead of them in the Western Conference standings.
The game took a tumultuous turn in the third period, with a total of 130 penalty minutes being assessed, which included 12 instances of misconduct.
Looking ahead, the Wild is set to play against St. Louis on Saturday, while the Kings are scheduled to face off against Tampa Bay the same day.
