In an exhilarating second game of the playoffs, Anze Kopitar delivered a decisive wrist shot during a breakaway, which flew past Stuart Skinner's glove, clinching a 5-4 win for the Los Angeles Kings against the Edmonton Oilers.
Kopitar, tying with Luc Robitaille for playing in his 94th postseason game for the franchise, intercepted the puck near the blue line and fired a sharp shot that slipped past Darnell Nurse's attempt to block it. Kopitar also added two assists, playing a key role in the Kings bouncing back from their previous defeat.
The Kings took an early lead with Adrian Kempe scoring twice in the first period and Drew Doughty making a significant play. Contributions from Kevin Fiala and Cam Talbot, who made 27 saves, further bolstered the Kings' efforts.
For the Oilers, Dylan Holloway netted two goals, drawing the game level in the third period. Brett Kulak and Zach Hyman were also on the scoresheet, with Stuart Skinner making 21 saves.
Despite the setback, Mattias Ekholm remained optimistic about the Oilers' performance. He highlighted their control over the puck and their potential to use this game as a stepping stone for improvement.
Quentin Byfield lauded Kopitar's pivotal role and the overall step-up in the team's performance, stating that Kopitar's leadership was instrumental and everyone elevated their game following his lead. The next match in the series is scheduled to be played in Los Angeles on Friday.
