Arizona Coyotes News & Updates

It has been confirmed that the Arizona Coyotes will be moving to Utah. The team's general manager, Bill Armstrong, shared this news with the players prior to their match against Edmonton.

The NHL is overseeing the transaction to Ryan and Ashley Smith, who currently own the Utah Jazz, ensuring the Coyotes' shift to Salt Lake City for the upcoming season.

While the details of the deal are still being ironed out, it is anticipated that an official announcement will be made after the current season ends. The team is scheduled to visit Salt Lake City and its amenities following the conclusion of their season.

The relocation includes plans for the Coyotes to use the Delta Center, which is under the Smiths' ownership. This move will require the venue to undergo modifications to meet the NHL's standards for a hockey-specific arena.

Ryan Smith has received support from local government, evidenced by the passing of legislation to finance the entertainment district, preparing for the introduction of an NHL team.

Alex Meruelo, the current owner of the Coyotes, is looking to purchase land in Phoenix as he seeks a stable location for the team. However, due to the NHL's concerns, the franchise is set to relocate.

The NHL maintains an interest in keeping a team in Arizona and has agreed that Meruelo can retain ownership even after the team's move to Utah.
