Nathan MacKinnon played a key role by scoring once and assisting three times, while Mikko Rantanen added two goals and an assist, leading the Colorado Avalanche to a 6-4 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. This win brought an end to the Hurricanes' eight-game winning streak.
Additional goals for Colorado came from Cale Makar, Artturi Lehkonen, and Sam Malinski. For Carolina, Jordan Martinook scored twice and added an assist, while Jack Drury and Martin Necas also found the back of the net. Seth Jarvis contributed two assists, and Spencer Martin made 23 saves for the Hurricanes, who had been undefeated since October 19.
Immediately after MacKinnon's goal leveled the game, Lehkonen scored another, just 53 seconds later. Carolina unsuccessfully challenged this goal for goaltender interference, which resulted in a power play for Colorado. Rantanen capitalized by scoring with slightly more than a minute remaining in the second period, enabling Colorado to score three goals in the span of three minutes.
Carolina pulled Martin to add an extra skater in the final two minutes, but Rantanen netted an empty goal 50 seconds later, securing the win for Colorado.
Even though he allowed four goals, Alexandar Georgiev delivered a solid performance in goal for Colorado, strengthening his case for another start on Monday.
Colorado's comeback was sparked by Makar who intercepted a pass and scored with a slapshot from his zone, setting off a five-goal second period after trailing 2-0.
The Hurricanes, who had not conceded more than four goals in any previous game, allowed five within half of a period.
Carolina is scheduled to visit Vegas on Monday, while Colorado will host Nashville.
