The Colorado Avalanche demonstrated their team depth with an emphatic 6-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets during the third game of the Western Conference quarterfinals.
In a show of force during the third period, the Avalanche had five different players score, highlighting their enhanced offensive capabilities.
Opening the scoring was Zach Parise, followed by Nathan MacKinnon and Valeri Nichushkin who both scored on power plays in the third period. Artturi Lehkonen, Ross Colton, and Devon Toews also contributed goals to secure the victory.
The Jets struggled with penalties in the last period, which the Avalanche took advantage of through power-play goals.
Postgame, an altercation resulted in Winnipeg defenseman Brenden Dillon receiving a hand injury; details on his condition were not provided.
With this victory, the Avalanche move ahead with a 2-1 lead in the series, looking to move past the disappointment of an early playoff exit the previous year, despite being the reigning Stanley Cup champions.
