Nathan MacKinnon led the charge with a duo of goals and a pair of assists, while Yakov Trenin scored a pivotal goal against his old team, pushing the Colorado Avalanche to a resounding 7-4 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday night. This win ensured their place in the playoffs.
Cale Makar, Jonathan Drouin, Casey Mittelstadt, and Artturi Lehkonen contributed to the scoresheet for Colorado, helping to snap a two-game skid. In goal, Alexandar Georgiev was in net for 13 shots, relinquishing four goals before Justus Annunen took over, shutting out all 17 shots he encountered.
On the opposite side, Cole Smith, Mark Jankowski, Dante Fabbro, and Gustav Nyquist managed to find the net for Nashville, which faced its second consecutive loss. Kevin Lankinen was busy in the crease, saving 35 shots.
With three power-play goals added to their tally, Colorado hit the 100-point milestone for the third year in a row. Despite taking an early 4-2 lead in the second period, the Predators couldn't hold off Colorado's offensive onslaught, particularly after their franchise-best 18-game point streak ended the previous Thursday.
Colorado staged a dramatic comeback with three unanswered goals, regaining the lead. Lehkonen's power-play goal came after Ryan McDonagh was penalized with a major penalty, followed by scores from Makar and Trenin -- the latter marking the winning goal. MacKinnon rounded off the scoring with an empty-netter.
The initial period saw both teams exchanging goals, with Nashville netting two within 41 seconds. Mittelstadt narrowed the gap for Colorado with a late-period power-play goal.
