Valeri Nichushkin, who is currently suspended from the Colorado Avalanche, has received clearance to practice. However, he cannot participate in games because he is still at Stage 3 of the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. It is anticipated that his suspension will continue until the middle of November.
The return of Nichushkin would add depth to the Avalanche team, which has been dealing with injuries this season. Artturi Lehkonen, recently activated from injured reserve, is expected to rejoin the team soon after his recovery from shoulder surgery.
Nichushkin was absent from the postseason in May after unexpectedly leaving the team during the first round of the 2023 playoffs due to personal matters. He is currently under an eight-year contract worth $49 million, signed in 2022, which runs through the 2029-30 season.
The Avalanche are currently without several key players due to injuries, including forward captain Gabriel Landeskog, who is out with a knee injury, and others like Ross Colton with a broken foot, as well as Jonathan Drouin and Miles Wood, who are both dealing with upper body injuries.
