Avalanche's Matt Stienburg Faces NHL Safety Hearing for Charging Penalty

Colorado Avalanche newcomer Matt Stienburg is set for a player safety hearing due to his conduct during Wednesday's defeat against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Stienburg's actions involved charging Tampa Bay's defenseman Erik Cernak, leading to a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct. Following this incident, Cernak left the game.

Chosen in the third round of the 2019 draft, Stienburg debuted in the NHL in October. In his eight games, he has 16 hits and has accumulated 22 penalty minutes but has yet to score any points.

Originating from Nova Scotia, Stienburg played for Cornell, where he achieved 13 points and incurred 63 penalty minutes over the course of 54 AHL games last season.
