The Florida Panthers' Aleksander Barkov has been named the NHL's top defensive forward, garnering the Selke Trophy. At the age of 28, Barkov has now claimed this honor twice.
His significant contribution played a key role in the Panthers conceding the least number of goals this season, with a remarkable faceoff win rate of 57.3%.
Hailing from Finland, the center achieved an overwhelming majority in the voting process, securing 156 out of 194 first-place votes and was omitted from only two ballots.
His teammate, Matthew Tkachuk, praised him as the current best player globally.
Under Barkov's leadership, the Florida Panthers have advanced to the Eastern Conference final for the second successive year.
Hoping to build on their journey to the Stanley Cup Final the previous summer, Barkov is set to guide his team in the upcoming Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Rangers on Wednesday.
In the award's voting, Jordan Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes was the runner-up, while Auston Matthews from the Toronto Maple Leafs secured the third spot.
