Florida Panthers News & Updates

Aleksander Barkov netted two goals during the third period and Sam Reinhart secured the only goal in the shootout, leading the Florida Panthers to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

This occasion marked the first time Barkov has scored multiple goals in the third period at home in his career spanning 11 seasons, all spent with the Panthers.

Barkov expressed dissatisfaction with the team's initial performance. "We weren't satisfied with our performance in the first period," he stated. Following the break, the team amped up their efforts in the second and third periods, which, according to Barkov, more accurately reflected their true capabilities. He emphasized the importance of maintaining this level of play as their path to victory.

In the shootout, Sergei Bobrovsky denied all three attempts against him and made a total of 20 saves throughout the game for Florida. Dylan Larkin managed to even the score with only four minutes remaining in the regulation time for the Red Wings, which also saw Robby Fabbri finding the net.

Alex Lyon, a former goalie for the Panthers who contributed to their playoff run last year, made 36 saves for Detroit. Detroit's coach Derek Lalonde praised Lyon, acknowledging the critical role he played.

The Panthers' resurgence was partly attributed to coach Paul Maurice's critique of their weak start, as Barkov noted. Reinhart highlighted the significance of Barkov's leadership, pointing out that the team performs at its best when Barkov is at the forefront.

Looking ahead, the Panthers are set to play against Toronto on Monday, and the Red Wings are scheduled to face Tampa Bay the same day.
