Toronto Maple Leafs News & Updates

Tyler Bertuzzi led the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-1 win against the Washington Capitals by scoring two goals, accumulating a total of six goals over seven games. Joseph Woll made a significant contribution with 24 saves, and additional goals came from Mark Giordano, Conner Dewar, and Bobby McMann.

The Capitals managed to get a goal from Nic Dowd, and goalie Charlie Lindgren was kept busy with 43 saves. The defeat leaves the Capitals with a record of 36-27-9, while the Maple Leafs improved to 41-22-9.

After facing criticism from coach Sheldon Keefe for the team’s earlier losses, including a notable one against New Jersey on Tuesday, Woll demonstrated a strong comeback.

Despite battling illness, Auston Matthews, who leads the NHL with 59 goals, was present on the ice for the Maple Leafs. The team, however, was missing key players such as Mitch Marner, Morgan Rielly, Timothy Liljegren, and Joel Edmundson due to various reasons.

Giordano celebrated a personal victory by scoring his second goal of the season, breaking a drought of 31 games without a goal, in his return from a concussion endured on February 29.

The game saw Bertuzzi doubling the lead in the second period before Dowd scored for the Capitals. Dewar and McMann's goals further solidified the win for the Maple Leafs, capped by Bertuzzi's empty-net goal towards the end.

Looking ahead, the Capitals are set to face Boston on Saturday, while the Maple Leafs will compete against Buffalo.
