Bill Zito has been elevated to the roles of President of Hockey Operations and General Manager for the Florida Panthers, a move that reflects the organization's focus on continuity and is accompanied by an extension of his contract for multiple years.
Over the course of his four-year stint with the Panthers, Zito has been instrumental in transforming the team's fortunes. Under his guidance, the Panthers have become regular participants in the playoffs and have recorded victories in more than half of their games, setting a new standard for the franchise.
Among Zito's significant contributions are the strategic acquisitions of players like Matthew Tkachuk, Aleksander Barkov, and Gustav Forsling, and the recruitment of coach Paul Maurice. These moves have propelled the Panthers to impressive achievements, including securing the Eastern Conference championship and capturing the Presidents' Trophy in 2022.
The extension of Zito's tenure is indicative of the Panthers' commitment to maintaining their competitive edge. Michael Viola, the alternate governor of the team, has highlighted the critical role of stability in fostering the growth of hockey within South Florida.
Beyond his responsibilities with the Panthers, Zito has also been selected to serve as assistant general manager for the forthcoming NHL 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Olympic team.
