In Columbus, contributions from Kirill Marchenko and Mathieu Olivier, both tallying a goal and an assist, along with Daniil Tarasov's 21 saves, guided the Blue Jackets to a 6-4 victory at home against the Buffalo Sabres.
The Columbus team also saw goals from Yegor Chinakhov, Adam Fantilli, Zachary Aston-Reese, Damon Severson, and Zach Werenski, who additionally provided two assists.
For Buffalo, the goals were scored by Ryan McLeod, Owen Power, JJ Peterka, and Jiri Kulich, with Devon Lev making 19 saves.
Buffalo, despite being outshot by 25-24, did not manage a shot on goal until 10:51 into the first period.
The Russian players, Chinakhov and Marchenko, showcased their influence as both scored their second goals and assists over the last four games, with Chinakhov leading the team with six points.
During the closing minutes of the second period, both teams traded three goals. Kulich reduced Buffalo's gap, but Oliver quickly reinstated Columbus's two-goal advantage within thirty seconds. Power added a goal for Buffalo with just 25 seconds left, until Aston-Reese extended Columbus's lead just 15 seconds into the third period.
Injuries still affect the Blue Jackets, as Kent Johnson exited the game due to a likely wrist injury, while Erik Gudbranson and Elvis Merzlikins continue to be sidelined.
The Sabres will be traveling to Chicago on Saturday, and the Blue Jackets will be hosting Minnesota.
