In an exciting match, Kirill Marchenko scored a late goal to achieve a 4-4 tie in regulation time. Subsequently, Sean Monahan clinched a 5-4 victory for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the shootout against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Contributions from Dmitri Voronkov and Dante Fabbro with goals, and Elvis Merzlikins who saved 32 shots including all shootout attempts, helped the Blue Jackets secure their third straight win.
Carolina's goals were scored by Sebastian Aho, Jack Roslovic, Jalen Chatfield, and Jackson Blake. However, after Pyotr Kochetkov left the game due to an injury, Spencer Martin stepped in to make one save.
Despite this defeat, Carolina remains at the top of the Metropolitan Division, while Columbus has achieved a winning streak of three games for the first time since March 2022.
Carolina experienced another setback while on their road trip, losing for the third time in four games. Columbus capitalized on a four-minute power play to push the match into overtime.
A crucial moment came when Marchenko's goal with just over a minute left in regulation time extended the game into overtime, which Columbus ultimately won.
Martin Necas contributed two assists, raising his season total to 22 and placing him tied for third in the league. He leads Carolina with 33 points.
Looking ahead, Carolina will face Dallas at home on Monday, and Columbus will host Montreal on Wednesday.
