Blue Jackets Surprise Avalanche 6-4, Marchenko and Chinakhov Drive Offensive Burst

In the second period, Kirill Marchenko and Yegor Chinakhov scored, propelling Columbus to a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

Both Marchenko and Chinakhov contributed two assists, while Sean Monahan also netted a goal and provided two assists.

Additional goals for the Blue Jackets came from Zach Werenski, Kent Johnson, and Adam Fantilli.

For the Avalanche, Nathan MacKinnon, Miles Wood, Casey Mittelstadt, and Ross Colton found the back of the net. Alexandar Georgiev faced nine shots, conceding three goals before Justus Annunen took his place.

After Fantilli's goal extended Columbus's lead to 3-1, Wood and Mittelstadt managed to equalize the game for Colorado, only for Marchenko to later score what would be the winning goal.

In goal, Daniil Tarasov made 26 saves for Columbus. Colton scored with Annunen out as an extra skater, but Monahan secured the victory by scoring into an empty net.

Regarding the Blue Jackets, Coach Dean Evason's squad has shown early strength with a record of 1-0-1.

For the Avalanche, there are ongoing issues with their goaltending as Georgiev let in eight goals from 25 shots.

A significant moment occurred when MacKinnon was honored with a video tribute, and NBA star Nikola Jokic presented him with the Hart Trophy.

A notable statistic emerged with Avalanche winger Ivan Ivan getting his first NHL point through an assist on MacKinnon’s goal.

Looking ahead, the Blue Jackets will play host to the Florida Panthers, while the Avalanche are set to welcome the New York Islanders.
