On Saturday, the St. Louis Blues exchanged forward Kevin Hayes and a 2025 second-round draft pick with the Pittsburgh Penguins for future considerations.
Hayes had a one-season stint with the Blues after being traded from Philadelphia in 2023. During that season, he registered 13 goals and accumulated 29 points over 79 games, marking his lowest performance in a full season throughout his 10-year career.
The Penguins are enhancing their center options with the addition of Hayes, who is capable of taking on roles in the third or fourth line. Hayes has two years left on his contract, which carries a cap hit of $7,142,857 per season. However, the Flyers are covering 50% of his salary.
The Blues' decision to include Hayes in the trade helps them free up cap space just before the NHL free agency begins on July 1.
