Philip Broberg, a defenseman with the St. Louis Blues, suffered a lower-body injury during the game on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The incident happened in the second period during a collision with Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner while they were competing for the puck.
Unable to put weight on his right leg, Broberg had to be helped off the ice and taken to the Blues' locker room. The team announced that he would not be returning to the game.
Following the team's 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs, Blues coach Drew Bannister did not provide any updates regarding Broberg's condition.
Broberg, who joined the team as a signed restricted free agent during the offseason, is on a two-year contract worth $9.16 million with the Blues. St. Louis acquired him after Edmonton did not match the offer, which cost St. Louis a second-round draft pick for 2025.
Before the match, Broberg shared the top spot in team points with Jordan Kyrou, accumulating nine points from two goals and seven assists over 11 games.
Colton Parayko, another defenseman for the Blues, expressed his concern, stating that Broberg is an integral part of the team both on and off the ice, often playing significant minutes against top lines, and it's tough to witness him getting injured.
