Philip Broberg, a defenseman for the St. Louis Blues, is anticipated to be out for 4-6 weeks due to an apparent injury to his right leg.
Coach Drew Bannister referred to Broberg's condition as a lower-body injury but noted that the outcome was hopeful given how severe the injury appeared when it first happened.
Broberg got injured in a collision with Toronto's forward Mitch Marner during Saturday's match. His right leg bent awkwardly, prompting him to leave the ice with assistance while holding his leg.
Broberg's injury joins a list of other Blues players who are currently out, including forwards Robert Thomas, Kasperi Kapanen, and Mathieu Joseph, along with defensemen Nick Leddy and Torey Krug.
Robert Thomas suffered a broken ankle, and Torey Krug is set to miss the entire season after undergoing ankle surgery.
Despite these setbacks, Bannister expressed confidence in the team's potential to adapt and manage.
Scott Perunovich is slated to take Broberg's place in the St. Louis lineup.
Bannister highlighted the need for a team-wide effort to cover for the loss of key players, rather than depending on just a few individuals.
