Boston Bruins News & Updates

The dispute between the Boston Bruins and Jeremy Swayman escalated on Monday when Swayman's agent strongly contested the team's claims about the contract offer.

Swayman, 25, is not participating in the Bruins' training camp due to the absence of a new contract. Coach Jim Montgomery anticipates Joonas Korpisalo will start the season opener against the Florida Panthers.

Team president Cam Neely expressed his belief that Swayman wants to remain in Boston but is frustrated that an agreement has not been reached.

Neely hinted at Swayman's financial expectations, stating, "I have 64 million reasons why I'd be playing right now."

Swayman's agent, Lewis Gross, countered by stating that the figure had not been discussed earlier and voiced his disappointment with the team's transparency.

The Bruins chose not to comment on Gross's remarks.

Neely also voiced surprise at Swayman's demands, suggesting the goalie is attempting to establish a new market standard.

Swayman, anticipated to be the Bruins' main starter, holds a record of 79-33-15, a .919 save percentage, and a 2.34 goals-against average.

Swayman earned $3.475 million last season, an amount determined through arbitration. Negotiations between Sweeney and Gross continue.

Reports indicate the Bruins proposed an eight-year contract to Swayman, while his representatives are seeking an average annual salary of over $9.5 million.

Sweeney expects Swayman to rejoin the team before the December 1 deadline for securing a valid contract for this season.
