In a thrilling overtime at 1:54, David Pastrnak, with an assist from Hampus Lindholm, netted the decisive goal that propelled the Boston Bruins to a narrow 2-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the seventh game of their first-round NHL series.
Goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman was instrumental for Boston, stopping 30 shots, alongside Lindholm, who not only provided an assist but also scored during regular time. This triumph ensured the Bruins avoided another early exit in the playoff series, especially after leading 3-1.
Boston's head coach, Jim Montgomery, commended Pastrnak for his outstanding play, highlighting his control of the puck and ability to generate offensive opportunities. Pastrnak made a significant impact, attempting four shots on goal and playing for a total of 21 minutes.
The Bruins are set to challenge the Florida Panthers in their next playoff encounter. The Panthers had previously ousted them in the playoffs last year. The opening game of this series will take place on Monday in Florida.
On the Toronto side, William Nylander managed to score, with Auston Matthews assisting in the effort. Matthews, returning after missing two games, struggled to make a significant impact as the Maple Leafs continued their disappointing streak, failing to win Game 7s since 2013, including four losses in Boston.
Matthews was initially placed on the third line but moved up to the first line to help score Toronto's only goal, clocking in 17:35 minutes of playtime.
Leafs' goalie Ilya Samsonov made 29 saves, while captain John Tavares acknowledged the defeat but praised the team's resilience and spirit.
Pastrnak, who had scored a total of three goals throughout the series, expressed his relief and joy at sealing the game-winning goal.
