Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney has announced that restricted free agent goaltender Jeremy Swayman will not be participating in training camp due to the lack of a contract. Sweeney dismissed inaccuracies reported by the media regarding the ongoing negotiations.
Swayman, who is anticipated to be the team's starting goaltender, earned $3.475 million last season. Opting out of arbitration, Swayman left the terms of his contract open for negotiation. Sweeney has expressed disappointment over Swayman's absence, underscoring the significance of preseason training.
Although he did not share specific details, Sweeney denied reports suggesting prolonged silence between him and Swayman. He also refuted claims that a deal was imminent as camp commenced, labeling such reports as completely inaccurate.
Sweeney is hopeful that Swayman will rejoin the Bruins before the December 1 deadline to validate his contract. In the meantime, Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi are expected to handle the goaltending responsibilities.
Reports indicate that Swayman's team is pursuing a multi-year contract with an average annual value exceeding $9.5 million. While Sweeney has countered claims of an eight-year offer from the Bruins, he refrained from disclosing further details about the negotiations.
