The New York Yankees secured a narrow win over the Tampa Bay Rays in an exciting 3-2 game. The Yankees came out strong in the first inning, scoring two runs with contributions from Aaron Judge's sacrifice fly and Gleyber Torres's single.
In response, the Rays reduced the deficit in the second inning, bringing in one run thanks to a single by Brandon Lowe. The score stayed at 2-1 until the sixth inning, when DJ LeMahieu's solo home run extended the Yankees' advantage to 3-1.
Not backing down, the Rays fought back in the eighth inning as Yandy Diaz hit a solo home run, closing the gap to 3-2. Despite having an opportunity to tie in the ninth inning, the Rays were stopped as Aroldis Chapman struck out Randy Arozarena with the potential tying run on second base.
This win was vital for the Yankees, bringing them level with the Rays for the top spot in the American League East. Despite this setback, the Rays remain firmly in the race for the division title.
