In the opening week, the Chicago Bears triumphed over the Detroit Lions with a 31-10 score. Justin Fields was instrumental for the Bears, achieving two rushing touchdowns and carrying the ball 17 times for a total of 82 yards. The defense also made significant contributions by securing three interceptions and recovering a fumble.
Fields scored his first touchdown with a 51-yard run in the first quarter. Although the Lions managed to equalize in the second quarter through a field goal, the Bears quickly regained the lead with another 40-yard rushing touchdown by Fields.
The Lions faced difficulties on offense, accumulating only 204 yards, while the Bears amassed 357 yards. Jared Goff, the Lions' quarterback, threw three interceptions, one of which was returned by Kyler Gordon for a touchdown.
Defensively, the Bears delivered a commanding performance. The Lions' initial possession ended with an interception by rookie Jaquan Brisker. In the latter half of the game, Robert Quinn forced a fumble that was retrieved by teammate Nick Morrow.
The victory marked the Bears’ first win of the season, bringing their record to 1-0, whereas the Lions began with a 0-1 record.
