The Boston Red Sox lost to the New York Yankees with a score of 4-2 in the opening game of a doubleheader on Sunday. This defeat brought the Red Sox's record to 7-13 for the season, while the Yankees now stand at 10-10.

In the first inning, the Red Sox gained an early advantage when Rafael Devers delivered a two-run double. Nevertheless, the Yankees responded vigorously in the fourth inning, highlighted by Aaron Judge's three-run home run. The Yankees further increased their lead in the sixth inning with a solo home run from Giancarlo Stanton.

Despite having multiple opportunities to level the game in the later innings, the Red Sox were unable to secure the crucial hit they needed. The Yankees' bullpen maintained their composure, with Aroldis Chapman striking out all batters in the ninth inning to secure the save.

Nathan Eovaldi was the starting pitcher for the Red Sox, conceding three runs on eight hits across 5.1 innings. On the other hand, Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees, allowing two runs on five hits over 5.0 innings.

The Red Sox and Yankees are scheduled to face off again in the second game of their doubleheader later today.
