William Nylander, a forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, was sidelined for the first game of the Eastern Conference initial playoff round against the Boston Bruins because of an injury that has not been disclosed. Since Thursday, Nylander has been absent from team practice sessions and was also missing from the pre-game warmups at TD Garden.
After achieving a personal record of 98 points in the season, Nylander's presence is crucial for the Maple Leafs. His absence significantly impacted the team's performance, contributing to their 5-1 defeat in Game 1.
Sheldon Keefe, the coach of the Maple Leafs, has kept the details of Nylander's injury private. Even though Nylander's teammates seemed prepared to play without him, they are hopeful for his quick recovery and return to the lineup.
In Nylander's absence, Nicholas Robertson was called upon to fill the gap. He contributed with 14 shifts and logged 10:38 minutes of game time.
The next game in the series, Game 2, is set to take place on Monday in Boston.
