Buffalo Sabres News & Updates

JJ Peterka's goal in the shootout led the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-2 win against the Calgary Flames, at home in Buffalo.

Tage Thompson and Zach Benson scored goals in the first period for the Sabres, marking their third win in a row. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 24 saves during the game, including overtime and the shootout session.

Mikael Backlund and Matt Coronato were the scorers for Calgary, who lost their first game in Buffalo since 2016. Dan Vladar, who made 17 saves throughout the match, was tagged with the loss.

Using a clever move, Peterka pretended to cut across the front of the net before successfully scoring through Vladar's legs during the shootout, achieving Buffalo's first three-game win streak since the previous January.

The fortunes of the Flames have dwindled lately, while the Sabres have impressively stretched their NHL-record playoff drought to 13 seasons.

In a crucial moment, the Sabres managed to kill off a late penalty for having too many men on the ice during overtime, clinching the victory. Rasmus Dahlin provided an assist, placing him third in Buffalo's history for assists among defensemen.

In their upcoming games, the Flames will play against Los Angeles on Monday, and the Sabres will face off against Montreal.
