Calgary Flames News & Updates

The Calgary Flames will transform items left at a memorial for Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau into funds for local charities. This initiative includes crafting hockey stick benches in the brothers' honor.

In August, Johnny Gaudreau and his brother tragically lost their lives in a car accident in New Jersey.

The Flames held a memorial period at their arena where fans could leave keepsakes for the Gaudreau family. Now, the team is moving forward with a plan to preserve the brothers' memory using these items.

Hockey sticks will be made into benches with plaques commemorating Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau. Jerseys will be cleaned and transformed into blankets for local charities.

Johnny Gaudreau's favorite candy, Skittles, will also be repurposed. Skittles bags will be sent to the Calgary Food Bank, and bottles of purple sports drink will be contributed to a recycling initiative.

Stuffed toys will be given to Parachutes for Pets, a charity supported by Flames players. Flowers will be composted and incorporated into community parks.
