Calgary Flames News & Updates

The Calgary Flames have withdrawn their rights to Topi Ronni, a 19-year-old who was their draft pick and has been legally penalized in Finland for a rape committed during his minor years.

The District Court of Helsinki sentenced Ronni to a one-year suspended prison term, and as a consequence, Tappara Tampere, his team in the Finnish Elite League, has ended his contract with them.

After selecting Ronni in the 2022 NHL draft, the Flames have decided to part ways with him. Ronni expressed remorse for his behavior through a public apology posted on Tappara Tampere's website.

Ronni faced charges in October, leading Tappara Tampere to suspend him from all team activities amid the investigation process. The offensive incident occurred in 2021, although the specifics of the case against Ronni are kept confidential.
