Canada let a five-goal advantage slip away in the final period but ultimately sealed their win through John Tavares' goal in overtime, clinching a 7-6 victory over Austria.
Austria rallied back from a 6-1 deficit with an impressive comeback of five goals, pushing the game into overtime. Peter Schneider was prominent in the comeback, scoring twice and assisting once, with Benjamin Baumgartner, Dominic Zwerger, and Marco Rossi also playing key roles.
During the overtime period, Tavares maneuvered the puck into the Austrian zone and succeeded in scoring past David Madlener, marking Canada's third win in a row.
Earlier in the game, Connor Bedard, Kaiden Guhle, and other members of the Canadian team had scored goals, securing a commanding 6-1 lead before Austria's comeback earned them their first tournament point.
In other Group B action, Latvia triumphed over Kazakhstan with a 2-0 score, Norway defeated Denmark with the same scoreline, and France celebrated its first tournament victory against Poland, significantly helped by two goals from Justin Addamo.
