Canadiens Defeated by Penguins Despite Slafkovsky's Power-Play Goal and Eller's Comeback

Lars Eller found the net twice, while Evgeni Malkin contributed with a goal and two assists, leading the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 6-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night.

For Pittsburgh, Kris Letang, Kevin Hayes, and Rickard Rakell also found the back of the net, and Tristan Jarry managed 24 saves. Sidney Crosby did not score, keeping him one point away from 1,600 career points.

Montreal saw goals from Kaiden Guhle, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Emil Heineman, with Nick Suzuki and Mike Matheson each recording two assists. Sam Montembeault stopped 26 shots for the Canadiens.

Eller's two goals came from powerful wrist shots. The 35-year-old Danish player was previously with the Canadiens from 2010 to 2016.

With 12:13 left in the game, Hayes gave the Penguins a 4-3 lead, and Letang extended it to two goals four minutes later.

The Canadiens took 15 minutes and 30 seconds to record their first shot on goal. Fans began cheering two minutes prior when Jake Evans sent a simple dump-in towards the net.

The Penguins are set to play Buffalo at home on Wednesday, beginning a two-game set, while the Canadiens are preparing to host Los Angeles on Thursday, concluding a three-game home series.
