Canucks Coach Raises Concerns Over Coach's Challenge in Predators' Narrow 2-1 Win in Game 5

Wednesday, May 1st, 2024

Vancouver Canucks News & UpdatesRick Tocchet, coach of the Canucks, stood by his decision not to contest the equalizing goal by the Predators in the 2-1 defeat in Game 5. During the final period, a collision occurred involving Predators' defenseman Roman Josi and Canucks' goalie Arturs Silovs, which consequently led to the puck crossing the goal line after both Teddy Blueger from Vancouver and Gustav Nyquist from Nashville made contact around the crease, propelling Silovs and the puck into the net, marking a goal for Nashville during a power play. Josi acknowledged his attempt to maneuver around Silovs, which unintentionally resulted in the puck going into the goal. Tocchet revealed that there was a contemplation over issuing a challenge against the goal but concluded the play was too marginal to make a call. He highlighted that the decision might have been different if the scores were level at the time; however, with the Canucks ahead by a single goal, he chose not to take the gamble of a potential penalty should the challenge have been unsuccessful. Throughout the regular season, the Canucks have formally protested for goalie interference on only one occasion as recorded by Scouting The Refs. Even though the Canucks showcased a solid penalty-killing effort, the Predators managed to stave off elimination, pushing the series to a sixth game scheduled to take place in Nashville on Friday. Predators' coach Andrew Brunette commended his team for their determination and adherence to their strategic approach throughout the game.
