Washington Capitals News & Updates

Connor McMichael found the net twice, and Alex Ovechkin added to his tally, reaching 855 NHL goals, as the Washington Capitals defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3. This victory represents the fifth win in a row for Washington.

The Flyers fell behind with a four-goal deficit but managed to stage a rally. However, it wasn’t enough to avoid their sixth straight loss. Since their first win of the season, Philadelphia has let in 29 goals while only scoring 14, a decline largely due to turnovers, poor goaltending, and insufficient offensive efforts.

The Capitals dealt with penalties, allowing Philadelphia to narrow the gap, but they held firm thanks to Logan Thompson’s 26 saves. McMichael scored twice, with contributions from Taylor Raddysh, Nic Dowd, and Pierre-Luc Dubois. Ovechkin scored on an empty net, furthering his quest to surpass Wayne Gretzky's career goal record.

Flyers' Ivan Fedotov gave up four goals on 24 shots, continuing his struggle for a first NHL win. Travis Konecny, Owen Tippett, and Matvei Michkov got on the board for Philadelphia, with Michkov, at just 19 years old, demonstrating his talent with both a goal and an assist.

Despite their rocky start, the Flyers exhibited potential improvements, notably through Michkov’s performance. The Capitals maintain their formidable status, with Ovechkin progressing toward a significant hockey milestone.

Thompson’s vital saves late in the second period prevented the Flyers from building momentum. Philadelphia’s issues in the second period persisted, where they have been outscored 13-5 this season.

The Flyers will face Minnesota on Saturday at home, while the Capitals are set to play against Tampa Bay on the same evening.
