Capitals Triumph Over Flyers 4-1 Despite Ovechkin's Goalless Performance

Nic Dowd and Andrew Mangiapane scored short-handed goals in the first period while Charlie Lindgren made 17 saves, leading the Washington Capitals to their fourth consecutive victory after an initial loss of the season, with a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Though Alex Ovechkin was just 40 goals away from Wayne Gretzky's record in the last game, he did not score this time. Jakob Chychrun and John Carlson also contributed with goals for the Capitals.

Travis Sanheim scored the lone goal for Philadelphia, marking their fifth consecutive defeat as they only managed to find the net in the third period.

Dowd and Mangiapane's early scores gave Washington a two-goal leader, with Sanheim later boosting Philadelphia's hopes, but Carlson's goal quickly extended Washington's advantage again.

A pivotal moment came when Dylan McIlrath and Nic Deslauriers participated in an intense fight, showcasing the match's physical nature.

Dylan Strome, who was the Capitals' leading point scorer last season, played a key role by assisting Carlson's goal, thus extending his point streak to all five games played this season.

The Capitals and Flyers are set to face each other again for a back-to-back series in Washington on Wednesday evening.
