Carolina Hurricanes News & Updates

The Carolina Hurricanes had an eventful day focusing on their defense. They extended Jaccob Slavin's contract for eight years with an annual value of $6.461 million, starting in the 2025-26 season. However, they saw Brady Skjei and Brent Pesce depart in free agency.

Carolina's defense has been reliable in recent years, but changes were anticipated with Pesce and Skjei becoming available on the open market. Pesce signed with the New Jersey Devils, and Skjei joined the Nashville Predators, who also picked up Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault.

In addition, the Hurricanes are reportedly securing agreements with Sean Walker and Shayne Gostisbehere. Walker is expected to sign a five-year deal worth $3.6 million per year, while Gostisbehere is likely to get a three-year contract valued at $3.2 million annually.

Walker has been part of three different teams over the past three years, including the Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, and Colorado Avalanche. Last season, he recorded 10 goals and 29 points. Gostisbehere played part of the 2022-23 season with the Hurricanes before moving to the Detroit Red Wings last offseason, where he tallied 10 goals and 56 points.
