Carolina Hurricanes News & Updates

The Carolina Hurricanes recently ensured a key addition to their team by finalizing a three-year entry-level deal with Scott Morrow on Tuesday. Morrow, an outstanding defenseman hailing from the University of Massachusetts, became part of the Hurricanes following his college team's exit from the NCAA tournament.

Morrow, who showcased his skill by notching six goals and accumulating 30 points across 37 matches this season, had the option to become an unrestricted free agent in August due to completing his degree in three years. Nonetheless, his contract with the Hurricanes starts right away, securing him a NHL paycheck of $807,500 for the 2024-25 season and $832,500 for the 2025-26 season.

Canes General Manager Don Waddell praised Morrow, highlighting his offensive prowess, superior performance compared to his counterparts, and his early graduation. Waddell expressed enthusiasm for Morrow's future development with the Hurricanes.

From his very first year at UMass, Morrow made waves by scoring 13 goals and adding 33 points over 37 games. He continued this trend, proving his scoring reliability with nine goals and 31 points in 25 games during the 2022-23 season, leading up to another season with over 30 points.

The Hurricanes are now contemplating whether Morrow should play for their AHL affiliate or be a part of the NHL team. With the Hurricanes not having an AHL affiliate this season, they might consider loaning Morrow to a different team or integrating him into their main squad, currently comprising seven defensemen.
