Carolina Hurricanes News & Updates

Following their Game 5 win, Carolina Hurricanes' defenseman Brady Skjei mentioned the decisive element that led to the New York Islanders' ousting was simply good luck on their side.

Carolina saw pivotal goals from Jack Drury and Stefan Noesen happen in a record break of eight seconds apart in the third period, setting a new record for the franchise's quickest consecutive goals during the postseason.

Islanders' captain Anders Lee lamented the series' conclusion, pointing out how difficult it was to accept defeat, especially when it came down to critical moments that didn’t go their way.

The competition between the teams across the five-game series was intense, yet the Hurricanes managed to advance past the Islanders, especially after securing an overtime win in Game 4.

An initial advantage was gained by Carolina with Teuvo Teravainen and Andrei Svechnikov scoring early. The Islanders' Mike Reilly managed to reduce the deficit, but Evgeny Kuznetsov widened it again for the Hurricanes with a goal from a penalty shot.

A comeback effort in the second period by the Islanders saw Brock Nelson and Casey Cizikas evening the score.

The turning point came in the third period when the Islanders faced a rapid double loss with Drury and Noesen's back-to-back goals, ultimately sealing Carolina's win.

Kyle Palmieri from the Islanders commented on the unfortunate nature of the goals against them, underscoring the team's resilience and efforts to bounce back.

Despite the abrupt end to their season, Lee shared his pride in the team's overall performance throughout the season.

Looking forward, the Hurricanes are set to go against the New York Rangers in the next round. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour highlighted both the necessity for the team to elevate their game and the beneficial impact of luck in their progress
