The Carolina Hurricanes have finalized a two-year, $13 million agreement with forward Martin Necas. Renowned for his offensive prowess, Necas has played exclusively for the Hurricanes throughout his career.
This contract secures the 25-year-old Czech's place on the roster amidst previous trade speculations. General manager Eric Tulsky highlighted Necas' scoring talent and his significant contribution to the team's achievements.
As a first-round pick from 2017, Necas faced an uncertain future as a restricted free agent with arbitration rights. Although there were rumors about his preference for a trade, no deal came through.
During the 2022-23 season, Necas recorded 24 goals and 29 assists, leading the team with a total of 71 points. He also boasts nine overtime goals since the 2020-21 season, placing him at the top of the NHL in that category.
Necas' future was among the pivotal concerns for the Hurricanes following a transformative offseason. Under the new management of General Manager Eric Tulsky, the team saw the departure of several key players through trades and free agency.
The Hurricanes are also negotiating with Seth Jarvis, another promising young forward who enjoyed a breakout season with 33 goals. Jarvis is currently a restricted free agent.
