A decisive shootout goal by Jake Guentzel led the Carolina Hurricanes to a thrilling 5-4 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, despite being down by two goals in the closing moments.

Carolina saw Sebastian Aho netting two goals and providing an assist, with Guentzel and Brent Burns each adding two assists to their names. In goal, Pyotr Kochetkov secured the victory with 36 saves.

For Toronto, John Tavares contributed a goal and an assist, while William Nylander, Nick Robertson, and David Kampf each scored once. Morgan Rielly set up two goals, and Ilya Samsonov made 36 saves in the effort.

With the clock winding down and an extra attacker on the ice, Aho managed to score during a power-play opportunity and then equalized the match with just 5.8 seconds left, sending it to overtime.

The Leafs currently lead the season matchup against the Hurricanes 2-1, with the teams set to face off again on March 23 in Carolina.

The Hurricanes are set to face off against Ottawa in an away game on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs will begin a two-game trip, starting in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.
