Montreal Canadiens News & Updates

Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis is taking a break from his coaching duties for an unspecified period due to personal family matters.

In the interim, assistant coach Trevor Letowski will assume responsibilities as the head of the team during St. Louis's absence.

Under St. Louis's guidance, the Canadiens struggled recently, with three losses in their last four matches, including a setback with a 5-2 score against the Calgary Flames on Saturday evening, marking the beginning of a five-game series.

At the age of 48, St. Louis began his tenure as an interim coach for the team in February 2022 following Dominique Ducharme's dismissal. He then secured a three-year contract extension with the team in June 2022.

Prior to his coaching career, St. Louis enjoyed a fruitful period as a player, amassing 1,033 points over 1,134 regular-season appearances with teams such as the Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, and New York Rangers.

His career highlights include clinching the Stanley Cup and being named the league MVP with the Lightning in 2004, along with his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.
