In Detroit, the Colorado Avalanche secured a 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night, thanks to Valeri Nichushkin scoring his third goal in just two games and Alexandar Georgiev making 28 saves.
Cale Makar contributed with a power-play goal that put Colorado ahead, leading all NHL defensemen with a total of 35 points. Lucas Raymond found the net for Detroit, but the team has now suffered five consecutive losses, each by a single goal.
Despite a shaky performance in Buffalo, Georgiev redeemed himself, while Detroit's offense continued to falter, even against teams with less formidable defenses.
Makar's goal in the second period was vital for Colorado, compelling Detroit to play from behind. Notably, Makar has accumulated 17 points over eight career matches against the Red Wings.
The Avalanche will take on New Jersey on Sunday, and the Red Wings are set to play in Buffalo on Monday.
