The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward James van Riemsdyk to a one-year deal valued at $900,000.
The 35-year-old veteran notched 38 points, which include 11 goals and 27 assists, while playing for the Boston Bruins during the 2023-24 season.
Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell highlighted van Riemsdyk's consistent performance and contribution, underscoring his importance in providing depth and leadership to the squad.
Over his career in the NHL, van Riemsdyk has accumulated 629 points with 311 goals and 318 assists from 1,011 games.
Originally from New Jersey, van Riemsdyk was the No. 2 overall pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2007 draft and has tallied 21 goals and 15 assists in 82 playoff games.
Van Riemsdyk's wealth of experience and leadership qualities are expected to play a crucial role for the Blue Jackets, especially as the team copes with the absence of Johnny Gaudreau.
