The Columbus Blue Jackets have brought on experienced forward Kevin Labanc just ahead of the season's start, offering him a one-year deal worth $775,000.
During the preseason with the New Jersey Devils, Labanc made a mark by scoring six goals, one of them being a hat-trick against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Throughout his NHL career, Labanc has played in 478 games with the San Jose Sharks, recording a total of 82 goals and 225 points. The Sharks had selected him during the sixth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Don Waddell, the president of hockey operations for Columbus, complimented Labanc's scoring ability and personal qualities. He noted that Labanc has a strong shot and playmaking skills and believes his personality will make him a great fit for their team.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Labanc spent time with the United States National Development Program in Michigan between 2011 and 2013.
