Canada kicked off their championship pursuit with a victory of 4-2 over the first-time participant Britain.

Connor Bedard, who made an impressive entrance playing for the Chicago Blackhawks, stood out by netting two goals during the second period.

Even though Canada had the upper hand with 34 shots, they momentarily fell behind following Liam Kirk's goal during a power-play. Nonetheless, Michael Bunting quickly brought the game to a tie, followed by Brandon Hagel securing the lead.

Bedard continued to impress by adding two more goals to widen Canada's lead. This marked the 18-year-old's inaugural goal at this senior world level.

For Britain, Ben O'Connor managed to score in the last period.

Within Group B, Kazakhstan celebrated a 3-1 win over France. Meanwhile, the United States, after a loss to Sweden, aims for a comeback in their next match against Germany. The tournament also sees newcomers Poland and Austria going head to head in Group B, whereas the Czech Republic and Norway will compete in Group A.
