Edmonton Oilers News & Updates

During a Monday night game against the San Jose Sharks, Connor McDavid from the Edmonton Oilers achieved a remarkable landmark by becoming only the fourth NHL player to log 100 assists in a single season. This achievement came as McDavid made his way back to the ice after dealing with a lower-body injury.

By reaching this milestone, McDavid now shares a prestigious status with hockey icons such as Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr, who have also managed to reach or surpass this mark. Gretzky stands out in this elite group with a record of 11 seasons where he notched 100 or more assists.

This season presents the rare possibility of seeing two players achieve the 100-assist mark, as Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning is on the brink of accomplishing the same feat. Whether Kucherov will meet this milestone hinges on the Lightning's performance in their season finale.

Alongside his assist milestone, McDavid also netted his 32nd goal of the season during the clash with the Sharks, contributing significantly to the Oilers' dominant 9-2 win. This triumph maintains their pursuit of clinching the Pacific Division title.
