Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby reached significant achievements during their game against Buffalo on Wednesday night. Malkin netted his 500th career goal, marking him as the 48th player in NHL history to reach this milestone. At the same time, Crosby reached his 1,600th regular-season point, becoming the 10th player in the league's history to achieve this mark.
Malkin became the 20th player to score 500 goals with a single team, joining the ranks of active players like Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, and Steven Stamkos who have also hit the 500-goal mark. Crosby is notable for being the first to achieve 1,600 points since Jaromir Jagr did so in 2011.
The dynamic duo of the Penguins tallied a combined seven points in their matchup against Buffalo. Crosby contributed with a goal and two assists, while Malkin added a goal alongside three assists. So far this season, Malkin has accumulated 11 points in five games. Crosby, on the other hand, is only seven goals away from reaching 600 and is 39 points short of tying Joe Sakic for ninth place in NHL history.
Having been teammates with the Pittsburgh Penguins for over a decade, Crosby and Malkin have led the team to three Stanley Cup championships. They have consistently been pivotal to the Penguins' achievements and remain top-tier players in the NHL.
